Bag Washing Tips – How Do You Keep Your Bags Clean?

I decided to initiate a conversation on washing bags and the frequency of washing on the common bags that people use on their everyday basis. Reusable shopping bags, backpack, gym bags, and lunch bags are worn all the time, but they are always neglected as far as cleaning is concerned. During the process, bags may be dirty, possibly with bacteria and spills and stains, and even smelly, so bag cleaning is a valuable aspect of bag maintenance.

In the case of fabric and canvas bags, I normally use machine bag washing on a gentle cycle and a mild detergent. I think this approach is effective, yet I am always afraid of breaking straps, zippers, or printed patterns. Other individuals suggest it helps to use a laundry or washing bag to add extra protection- has anyone ever realized any difference when doing so?

Bag washing is a little more complicated using plastic and insulated bags. Warm water with dish soap does not appear to be a poor choice, but I also heard of individuals using dishwashers due to the more profound cleaning. Is this really safe or is it a reduction of the lifespan of the bag?

The other area of difference in opinions is drying. Do you put your bags on a dryer or air dry them after they have been washed? I have discovered that air drying is therefore useful in keeping shape although this takes more time particularly with thicker materials.

I am also interested in how many people wash their bags. Do you do it every week, month or do you only do it when the bag appears dirty? And are there any special products such as disinfectants or natural cleaners that you use?

I would be interested in learning about your bag washing experiences, tricks and errors of bag washing. The experience of sharing might serve to keep everybody with cleaner and fresher and more lasting bags in the long term perspective.
