Interval training consists of alternating between periods of mild to moderate exertion and high stress periods within the same workout. You should pick an exercise you want to do more often than not, that does not stress your body or cause injury, and one that does not require special equipment or space will not always be able to reach. For these reasons, "You: The Owner's Manual" recommends walking and yoga. These are low impact, enjoyable exercises that can be done at any time.

Changing Up 

Celebrity personal trainer Bill Phillips says no matter what exercise you initially choose, you should change your routine every three or four months. According to Phillips, this keeps you energized and excited about your workouts.
